RHYMER

For those ‘creative’ solutions

When a problem appears
There’s no need to fret
There’s no need for tears
Or even break sweat

Though solutions may seem
Too hard or too tough
There’s a common theme
That works with your stuff

A dash of invention
And touch of quick wit
To buck the convention
And sort out the sh*t

Simple is easy
Don’t get in a huff
Keep it all breezy
’Cause just is enough

No need to be grand
Just go with the flow
Now grab what’s at hand
And use what you know

75 WORDS

The march of progress

Stone faced sentries cast a cold steel gaze. Their concrete footing unwavering.

Once titans of strength, they stand now, lonely and abandoned. An impassive hardness sees but a land of forgotten names and bitter outcomes.

On glory’s mantle lay the scars. Of place and people; broken, hurt and cast aside.

This forward march a folly; lockstep with pride and greed. No single thought for home and kin. Unforgivable, but true.

Yet still, Mother reaches out.

75 WORDS

Land a thought for tomorrow

Basket hanging in front of weathered timber

Today’s catch was lean.

Naught but nibbles at the bait across the tide.

Heavy on the shoulder, and not with fish, the worn basket accompanies the fisherman on the slow walk back. The leather strap wears more weighted than most days.

Thoughts of tomorrow’s spot fill the mind. Today’s efforts not in vain; just not fruitful.

A low grumble breaks the reflection. One the basket’s offering will struggle to quell.

Tomorrow, is a new day.

75 WORDS

The sleights of silver tongues

It was the gold tooth that dazed me.

“Don’t worry about that. it’ll buff out.”

The yard had plenty of rust buckets but this one had my name on it apparently.

“Cosmetic only, trust me.”

If a sucker’s born every minute then this was my moment.

“The boys had this baby purring like a kitten just last week I swear”

“All I need is that 100% non-refundable cash deposit and she’s all yours son.”

*wink*

75 WORDS

The space in-between

Bridges over water with high contrast

We meet at the normal spot. Me early, her late; as usual.

A quick embrace to whisper words, further plans, resolve an outcome. Secrecy was never really my style; though, the situation necessitates.

A final glance, a shared nod. We part ways; not looking back.

What’s right, what’s wrong? Now, it’s hard to say.

The contrast of clarity is lost to me, as the tone of my convictions blurs to shade my actions that day.
